At a guess it just gained momentum a few years ago. Throw in some good marketing, then the links with LOT (PG), the success of the Elise Trophy etc, etc. Basically, with a lot of hard work behind the scenes, it grew wings and flew. Seloc is also way ahead of this place in terms of website developmnent - the recent classifieds fiasco being a good example. Changes on Seloc just work.
I don't wish to knock Mloc (I the remember turning up at Thurrock services at the Travelodge on a cold March evening and seeing a load of Mloc badged Elises - felt comfortablesmile
Seloc's success is amazing but don't let it diminish what Mloc, Nyloc etc achieve.

Perhaps it tells you something that I've never even heard of mloc and to me nyloc is a type of locking nut. For me seloc is far more usable for more of the time than PH, Elise.ch, vx220.org, exiges.com, etc. The type of forum they use (in common with LoT) just works.

As a member of both MLOC and SELOC, I can say with total honesty that MLOC these days looks and feels like a proper state-of-the-art site, with good graphics, good layout, good colours, good use of variable text size, and excellent use of product photos, etc etc. In fact, everything we now take for granted in a polished, well designed site.

SELOC, on the other hand, is a bit if a clunker. It has a very early forum presentation style, archaic and dull look and feel, and just not very inviting at all.

Come on SELOC, give it a lick of paint!!

I'm also a member of both, MLOC looks better from when I last logged on over 4 months ago, I'm guilty for not logging on more often, I will though.
Don’t agree on Seloc, I love the page lay out and colour scheme.

Its not just about how it looks or operates though is it.

I don't frequent MLOC and did not get very involved in SELOC in the two years I was a member but I think Tipper summed it up already. SELOC built momemtum and popularity and now that maintains itself, no matter how much more slick or 'better' another website is. Its about the community and interest spun from all the members.

Personally I much prefer the PH forum layout to any other I have encountered. Prob as much to do with it not being dedicated to a single marque though. I need the variety. Plus avitars and 'witty' signatures are just annoying fluff to me. SELOC is superb for tech info however.

I think diversity is the key to SELOC's success, there are sub groups for porsche owners and cat owners which make up the bulk of the inhabitants so is a very interesting and diverse forum.

MLOC is a regional group and SELOC has become international ?

in the early days of SELOC the majority had come out of the Kent and Essex Lotus owners groups and was already very active from day 1 ...just check the number of members/active members ...I think MLOC is still quite regional orientated?

...I do have logins to both as I live in the Midlands, and have been on SELOC since day 1....

Sorry, only just noticed this one but I guess I'm in the best position to reply.

MLOC is just a regional group as was SELOC obviously back in the day. Since then they had international/national aspirations, where as we wanted to stay regional, hence why we are not as active as SELOC. Obviously with less of an area to cover we will have less members and also less resources compared to other Lotus clubs to put on events and the like.

I don't see SELOC as a rival to us as we are just region specific, an area that SELOC doesn't try to cover as we are well established now, ten years old this year smile

TBH I prefer the smaller forums like MLOC, rather than the masses in SELOC.

True, SELOC is better for tech knowledge, with there being a bigger pool of brains to pick - but SELOC is very cliquey and less personal.
