Can you?

Fit a link up gear mechanism to a EssexAutosport (sincs) kit?

Basically the link up shift seems much tighter and quicker tha the Sincs set up. I've already got the quick shift, but it's still always been quite a long shift.

Any thoughts?

Not sure although I also have a sincs conversion, which in theory should be better as uses the standard routines and counterweights, but mine has a hell of a lot of slop, although to be honest I haven't had the time to adjust it as you can tweak everything..

Can't see why not, although you will need new (Link-up) cables to match.

as for the comment above, you might just want to re-evaluate your comment, take a good look at what you have, then try and understand the issues.

The standard Honda is one of the best feeling manual boxes out there, so in theory taking into account the longer cable runs it could certainly be improved on IMO!

Thanks Henrysmile

Basically I have the Elise parts short shift but the shift, whilst slots nicely in, is still way too long and sloppy. Having driven a number of link up cars, the shift doesn't slot in as nicely as the Sincs one, but is soooo much shorter and therefore quicker to change gear.

The Sincs cables run under the gearbox and engine and then up over the gear box and into the mechanism. Not ideal and indeed I've had to re-route my cables slightly to avoid them chaffing! The long cables don't help the quickshift and so that is my reason for looking at teh alternative.

I know the Honda weight has to be cut off and I've enquired at MSC on a price, and just awaiting back from them.

Scuffers, any idea on a price? Could you supply the cables, mechanism etc for me to convert?

the problem with long cables doing 180 degree bends is that the inner cable will be slapping about from the inside to outside of the outer depending on if you push-pull it, so you always end up with a slack-zone.

it's un-avoidable, even with the best cables in the world, you still have to have clearance, hence slack.

As Simon says you can't get rid all of it... Remember the gear box linkage is designed for a front drive location.

Does anyone know a good supplier of the ball & cup fittings on the link - up gear linkage? Pretty sure they are 6mm.
