Hi all,

Newbie here looking for your thoughts on a certain Cup 260....

http://pistonheads.com/sales/3385360.htm

Exige Cup 260 - reg AU59 DSX

Having had a VX220 and alot of fun, time for a change and i am thinking about purchasing the above car. The exige was a Lotus press car and a quick google search later it turns out that evo magazine had the car for testing and there is a youtube video of the same car. I imagine there would have been a hell of alot of other people who would have also driven the car also!

My concerns are: alot of people would have driven the car without respect (not theirs) and the 2nd owner only used the car on track which would suggest very arduous use. 3 owners and was first registered sept 09, 3 owners in 2 years?!

Please could you tell me whether to steer clear or you if you think, mileage, price etc is good?

I very much value your thoughts, good or bad...............?

Regards

Use the above to get the price down, it's already 2/3k over IMO.
These cars are made to be driven like they've been stolen, they can take it. It wouldn't put me off anyway, if I was in the market that is!

Edit to add:

No sound deadening, no carpets, no central locking, no sun visors, no mudflaps.

It's more of a track slag than your VX220 don't forget. Depends what you want to do with it.

Why do you think it is already overpriced? because of its 'ex lotus press car' status?

No, I base it on current residuals, plus it's had 3 owners in a short space of time. I would start my offer (all subject to the car being what I want and it checks out, HPi, Tax, tyres, FLSH, paintwork, windscreen, interior etc) at £32500 and keep reminding the dealer of the owners count. It might end at £34/35k with new boots thrown in and/or this: http://www.paintgard.co.uk/paint-protection/paint-...

I have never paid the full asking for a car anyway but what you mention above is a good bartering tool.

When I saw this for sale at JCT600 I was interested until I saw the reg. There is a nice pic of it doing a power slide in one of the motoring mags. Possibly EVO. It has also been for sale twice this year already on Pistonheads classifieds. JCT600 will make sure the car is right before you get it but there are a few Cup 260 cars for sale at the moment with a lot less miles. Apparently the ex-press cars want for nothing while they are press cars. Keep us informed.

The ex press cars are the best ones as they have all the options and pass through the final build / sign off shop 3 times.

From my experience I drive quicker the longer I have mine as I get more used to the speed.

This car was up on ebay recently. Last I saw, bids were around the 27k mark but it still had some time left on the auction.

Hi Tony, that was two years ago and it was a 2008 Cup 260 in Isotope green. And I did buy it. I completely regret getting rid of that car as I will never own a better Exige. Absolutely fantastic car in all respects. Oh well we all do stupid things in our lives. My black 240pp is still nice. See pic of aformentioned car.

very nice cars and excellent choice of colour!

I have seen cup 260's with and without exterior cut off switches, were there different options available for the cup 260 cars?

As has been said before, use the history as a batering tool, but it may not be necessary to be concerned regarding the percieved quality/reliability of the car, due to its life as a press car. Already mentioned, but in general, press vehicles are fastidiously maintained, with all mechanicals regularly checked / consumables replaced etc. You'll have your manufacturer/dealership warranty to fall back on, anyway.

In any case, it's a stunner and the 'epitomy of Exige' that certainly warrants a viewing if you've got your heart set on it.

Thank you for all of your comments and replies so far, most appreciated.

Do any of you feel that 3 owners in 2 years is something to worry about? i would then be the 4th owner and if i come to sell in a couple of years do you think it could be a struggle considering the amount of previous owners?

It's a press car and that's why the 3 owners, like I say, get the price down with that in mind, I'd still buy it at that ownership, I'd love it, it's a great colour too, and like some have said, it will be well maintained because it's a press car. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on,driving

Hold on for a moment. For the little bit extra money I think this is probably the better car. Only 3000 or so miles. It hasn't got those silly eyebrow stripes on the back.

Pic of the green one with Auto Express magazine. There are some good pics and write up with this car for your info. I think it will have had a hard life.
