Hi guys,

Need your help again.... so finished the HG failure and have the car MOT’d taxed and insured, now I have a very strange rattle from what seems to be the plastic inlet manifold, it only happens under load or when you back off... sounds like a metal plate vibrating... its certainly from the top of the engine / inlet...

Any pointers ?

Cheers
Matt

I have exactly the same issue. Just crept up in the last few weeks intermittently. (S2 111s)

For me its backing off just over the 2k mark and it sounds like two metal plates vibrating. Ive checked undertray and the cat - i read somewhere that it can be the exhaust heatsheild.

Would be very interested if anyone has any replies on this......

I had a vibration like this right after having my exhaust replaced. It would vibrate at a given number of revs (about 2500).
Took it back to the garage (Christopher Neil) who'd fitted it and they sorted it out straight away. I think it was part of the exhaust heat shielding, but I can't remember exactly what they said.

See here: http://www.elises.co.uk/components/s1/engine/exhau...

"Some cars exhibit an exhaust vibration at about 2000-2500rpm and this is also common to MGF's and Rover 200's. Lotus have produced an 'anti-tizz' bracket, part no. A111E6234S to solve this problem. There is a service manual update (code 1999/03) that details installation. Similar symptoms occur if the heat shield is too close to the exhaust or if the rear under-tray is not mounted correctly so check these things first."
