Hello all - I need to source 4 shock absorbers, all I can find on the net are near 800 quid for the 4! That cant be right, can it? Does anyone know of anybody who can refurb them, my mechanic tells me that is possible as they arent completely shot.
What do you have on there at the moment? Koni and Nitron rebuild them, not sure if Bilstein do. Don't think you'll find many new for less than £150-£200 per corner.
For S1 Elise:
Set of Bilsteins for 690

For S1 K Series:
Set of Nitron street series for 695

Will PM you now - looks great!
I find it hard to believe someone would want to put old 30k miles Konis back on a car.It would be a lot more saleable if you put Bilsteins / Nitrons / Gaz on it. If the new buyer knows anything about them he will budget for a suspension refresh if it still has Konis on it.

Used Koni's are pretty much worthless. Do the job properly and get some new Bilsteins or Gaz Golds if money is tight, or Nitrons if you want to splash out.
I fitted the Bilstein to my S1 at the weekend. It was still on the original Konis. The difference they have made is phenomenal.
Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you get a new set of nuts and bolts. The lower mounting bolts on the rears were really well seized on mine and I ended up having to persuade them to come off with the aid of my old pal, Andy the Angle Grinder! It is difficult to get a socket in to attach a breaker bar to and spanners just rounded off the heads.

the original Koni's were cheap crap when they were new, 30K miles they will be scrap.

A guy on eBay sells all the suspension bolts in little packs which is handy.Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you get a new set of nuts and bolts. Not if he's trying to sell, he might as well get £500 and through it down the toilet! A reasonable set of Koni's will get the car road legal and suitable for sale. If the new owner wants to upgrade or replace with something a lot better then so be it, but that might not be GAZ or Bilstein.Used Koni's are pretty much worthless. If the Koni's are in reasonable shape, get them and let future owners know they have been replaced so they can make a sensible judgement.
The suggestion of S2 Billies is a good one though, but that would ideally require a new set of rear brackets and a geo...
