Hello,

So....just got back from a trackday where my s2 elise had a disagreement with a tyre wall. The impact was pretty straight on on the rear of the car and the clam and diffuser look a bit beaten up but the clam is still in one piece and i'm still naively holding out that the clam at least could maybe be repaired. the car is still totally driveable.

I'm now frightening myself with the cost of replacing the damage - does anyone have any comments on:
1. likely cost to sort it out
2. how / where i get it fixed - obviously i don't have an insurer to turn to so i'd like to do it without throwing money at it. any recommendations for experts in repairing these things, or the best place to turn for replacement parts?

cheers

Sorry to hear mate, happened to all of us at some stage.
I see you're in London, I use these boys http://www.backontrackmotorsport.co.uk/index.php for paint/bodywork after the job they did on my friends S1, they're in Guildford.
Speak to Stef and tell him I recommended you smile
If you need a replacement diffuser i have a brand new one sitting in the garage that you can have for £75.
Don't get too hung up,put it down to experience and learn something from it.

Another Vote for boys at Back on Track.

They have done great jobs on refreshes and full rebuilds.

The baby blue S1 is now a legend.

If you use them I recomend you bring some biscuits when you drop the car off.

Always reasonably fair and reasonable.

glass fibre is pretty easy to repair yourself if you have somewhere inside to do the work. you can even do it outside on a warm dry day. Finishing to a car standard ie the fairing and painting is something for a pro however.

best materials to repair grp are epoxy resins and woven glass cloth since epoxy sticks to old polyester far better than new polyester.

Bell & Colville use Panelwise in Weybridge. I'm currently sporting a crack in the front clam after something heavy fell off an unknown car and hit the front of the Elise on the M4. They had a look at it- I hope you can get it repaired because my insurers are looking at a bill well into 4 figures!

Great, thanks guys.

Will pay a visit to backontrack and have a couple of other leads. Hopefully the clam can be repaired...

Appreciate the faith in the suggestion that i can repair it myself but i'm afraid you have overestimated my handiwork skills. Car is currently at my parents so can't upload any photos at the moment.

Think i need to find a cheaper track car that won't cause me quite so much anguish if i get it wrong again

Cheers
