If I buy a second hand Elise which has a hard top on it - can it be easily taken off and then the soft top used without any problems?

I heard that adding a hard top means you have to modify it slightly meaning the soft top may not fit properly - I hope that is a myth!

Generally, you would put the hardtop on in November and remove it in Feb/March, then use the soft top or nothing during spring/summer/autumn.

BTW, the Hardtop gives the Elise a 'meatier' look.

You should have no issues with swopping from softop/hardtop.

Also be aware that with a hardtop there is no rain gutter, so you will get wet getting out of the car if it has been raining.

S1's have a fibre glass hoop / cover that goes over the roll bar before fitting the soft top (clips in easily) which has to be removed if fitting the hard top - perhaps this is what you heard?

Probably that or the fact that sometimes to ensure a watertight(ish) fit you'll need to adjust the windows slightly for each - so if you've got the car so it doesn't leak with the soft-top that's no guarantee it would with the hard-top, or visa versa.

No probs, perhaps you're thinking of / heard about the exige, which can be fitted with a soft top with some modification. As everyone has said, soft and hard tops are interchangeable at will with no modification on the elise.

Do you mean will the windows need adjusting?

Yep they are interchagable. Well not easily as the hard top is bolted into place as opposed to the soft top that just clips on.
