Its been a long time since doing a blog update on the Europa so I'm going to 'pull my finger out' and blog the progress of the car leading up to the Barcelona 24 hour race I have entered it in.

Blog is here: http://www.hofmanns.co.uk/blog/motorsport/barcelon...

Feel free to comment and discuss, if you see something I've missed it might be the difference between finishing or not!

Great,

I enjoyed the first build blog. Will you be racing in the UK anytime soon?

update 2 http://www.hofmanns.co.uk/blog/motorsport/europa-b...

No plans for any UK racing at the moment. Maybe the 1000K race at the end of the year if Barcelona goes well?

Yo Chris try the pump I use.. Jabsco 50840-0012 continuous duty pump rated at 29.7 gallons/min. and ditch the P/A chargecooler for a better designed core.. http://turboneticsinc.com/node/83 if it's not too late..

See ya on www.Lotussport.org

I've got a Davies Craig 115 on the way which should be with me this morning so I'll give that a go, otherwise it will probably be a Jabsco or a Johnston pump. I've got a Jabsco water puppy as a gearbox pump and it seems quite a solid unit. Have you tested the actual flow rate in your installation? I'm annoyed that twin Bosch pumps offer such rubbish flow as I know they are a very reliable unit but glad I actually tested it rather than assuming they would do the job.

The core *should* be efficient enough and I know that it's reliable, obviously important for this race. If, after these changes, the charge temps still aren't good enough and I need to look at the core then would be interested to hear more about the spearco. How do they compare to the bell ones? Bell seem to have a MASSIVE variety of sizes which is useful. I recon I could get one of their 12"/8"/8" cores in the space but it will be damn heavy!

Spearco can be had in any size, my core is 3.5x9x10 inches.... I don't think you will need more than that.
I've used the Bell core on my supercharger only setup but it was only rated at 350 hp the larger Spearco unit is rated for 800 hp.
I'd stick with the Spearco core since it's never had an issue even with 56 psi. boost spikes. Remember the end tank design needs to give an even flow to all the core channels...
With over 80 pulls on the dyno in 100*f ambient conditions I never had to let things cool down while tuning. The other thing to consider is adding more cooling surface area, one heatexchanger blocking airflow to the engine radiator just dumps all its heat in front of the engine cooling.. You need to spread the chargecooler heatexchangers out, remember I run four seprate heatexchangers and two engine radiators...Keeping the head cool also prevents detonation. I saw the pic of the pistion.

Good luck dude, anytime you get over here again you can take my car out for a spin... good fun.

Cheers

New update here http://www.hofmanns.co.uk/blog/motorsport/barcelon...

Ronin, check out what I'm doing with the pre-rads, completely agree with what you're saying and I hope this setup helps considerably, we shall see. I'm sending my CC unit back to pro alloy for some mods, may as well use the current unit for testing purposes and if the testing bears fruit I might make a new unit using a spearco core.

I was in Malborough Thursday and a Van towing a Europa race car went passed. My wife reckons it was the Hoffmann car. I think it was the other Europa race car you guys seem to work on at races. If its the car I am thinking of it started as Gold then got a white all in one rear clam. Think its navy blue now.

Anyway we have a bet. Was it you?
