Early S2 buying tips?

Looking at early S2 with a budget of £10K to £13k at a push. To be used as a toy, but not on track. Is there much of a difference in quality of car between £10 & £13K? Common problems too be avoided on earlier cars etc. Just looking for "things" to research via here and Seloc. thanks.
