Insurance (again sorry)

I've just recovered from recieving my renewal notice from TL Clowes for the insurance on my Sport 160.
Limited milage with just myself driving.

Last year £676

This year they want £1576 !!!!!

Any good leads chaps?
Apart from the two finger salute required for TL Clowes.

Try Elephant.co.uk. My 111S is insured with them for £1150. Including myself and my wife to drive and our few minor traffic offences!

Try Direct Line, £1050 for S2 Sport 135. They quoted similar money for a Sport 160 a couple of months ago when I was trying to decide what car to buy.

The only thing is I've changed the air filter and put harnesses in. Not a big deal to me, but will it be to them?

I've got my 111s insured with Tecso - they were cheaper than everyone else (at least they were a month ago). It cost £650 for me and G/F despite me having no NCB (company car driver) and having had two accidents in 1999.

I got an online quote from Tesco for a standard Elise of £587.

Hurrah I thought,looks promising, I'll give them a ring and get a proper quote for a
Sport 160.........£1250!!!!

have had similar wildly varying quotes - apparently the way the insurance companies work is that they offer cheap prices on certain models until they fill their alloted quota and then wack up the prices to discourage any more - so it's more through luck you find a low quote - also by moving companies you will always get a lower quote as they reserve their best deals for new business.

There's a has-your-car-been-modified yes/no button you should choose yes on (it's with the bunch asking if it's immobilised, etc). It brings up a list of mods with checkboxes, and includes "Filters (non standard)".

There's an "Interior changes" box too, which would probably cover the harness. You need to read the small print at the top though - "if you make a claim for loss or damage to your car, we will only pay for the cost of replacing the parts needed for the car to meet the manufacturer's standard specification. The modifications themselves are not insured".

elephant were ok with me adding a harness, exhaust, cold air box, braided hoses etc. For a price. The above lot added about 15% on, I think. 3 or 4% per item.

I was v surprised that lotus's own insurance was loads cheaper than anyone else + u get free track day cover. normally manufacturer's ones are cons but they insured me when most wouldnt. I have unlimited mileage though so maybe someone like jardine faber might be better for limited - i used to use them when I had a morgan.

I've ended up joining the OLC and going with the AON/ Lotus Esteem insurance, limited malage, £250 excess, free track day cover at £481

Just the £1100 saving over TL Clowes then!!!

To all with OLC insurance and "free" track day cover... ask what happens in the even of an accident during a track day, in particular about the excess involved. My dad was told the track day excess is 10% of the cars value! :0

Yes that's correct.

But I think that's the case on all the normal policies, if they even include track day cover at all.

Other than that you can buy a single days cover from someone like Competition Car Insurance (Eggar Lawson) but you'll pay around £120 for £12,000 cover.

try auto torque on 0161 278 5226. they insure a helluva lot of performance cars, ie lotus, tvr, ferrari, porsche etc... they include track day cover as well.
