How strong are the engine cover mounting points on an S2 Elise please? I know the engine cover is rather flimsy and light, but if you wanted to ruin a lid and add strength to it in order to mount things like bike racks to it, would the brackets be able to take the strain?

Any advice welcomed. Trying to work out how I can have an elise and carry on cycling scratchchin

I doubt it they are only attached to the clam and along a 'straight' bit of GRP so would be prone to cracking I'd have thought if you beef up the lid?

have a look at this tho!

Not sure I'd be that keen I'd be drilling holes in the clam!!!

Yes, have seen that, not sure I'd want to drill into the clam though, could end up very messy and that system is very expensive. Would prefer to utilise the rear area over the engine cover (a-la the S1 rack) but it's not looking hopeful frown

Failing this idea - is there any strength behind the roof mounting points? i.e. are they fixed sucurely to the window surround and roll hoop?

Nope! just a hole cut into the panel and a bit of glue! definatly not a mounting point!!!

frown Was thinking about butchering a cheap, second hand hardtop to add roof type bike racks to but doesn't look like that's a goer either...!

Really want an Elise but I need something that can carry my bikes scratchchin
