Chimaera 500 vs Exige (S?) 1-0
Discussion
Hello Lotii luvvers
I wanted to thank one of you for helping me test my recently acquired Chimaera 500.
I'm sorry if it was a rude awakening for you
Ross on Wye towards Monmouth, approx. 2pm
I think you'll agree it wasn't even close and I know you were trying.
I'm running in new nitrons (springs & dampers) and the fitter scr*wed up the setup, so I would have been (even) quicker if i hadn't been concerned about grounding.
At the moment the car is standard power, somewhere between 270 and 300bhp. I will be either supercharging or 5.3 custom engine to achieve 380bhp/420torque in the near future, so I look forward to pwning you by an even wider margin next time.
All in sportsmanlike spirit by the way. Your car looked very nice (both up your chuff and then in my r/view mirror)
As they say, there's no replacement for displacement !
Just goes to show, Yamaha should stick to building bike engines...
ETA :
My first two performance cars were M100 Elan SE Turbos
First I wrote off on the A303
Second was a bit special - 92 low miles 92K (owned it in 94/95) with 5k miles. Norfolk mustard. BBR Starchip to 225bhp, straight through s/s exhaust, custom retrim in dark green leather with yellow piping, S2 wheels, brakes & suspension etc. It did aquaplane habitually. Set a PB time from Builth Wells (Powys, mid Wales) to my drive in Musell Hill (london N10) in 2hrs 10 inc. 2 fuel stops. On a Sunday afternoon. With Caravans to negotiate.
So Lotus has good memories for me...
Got another one to cherish today

Tyvm !
Didn't mention (sensitive to your collective feelings) that when I took the door card of my Elan to fix an intermittent window fault, I found that wires were taped to the inner door skin with, wait for it, Sellotape. Not electricians tape, gaffer tape or duct tape - common or garden Sellotape !
And the gear stick came off in my hand - twice !
So I moved to TVR for build quality and reliability - lol
Luv y'all really x

You can't even spell the name of your own car properly - is it the school holidays already?
Incidentally, I am always perplexed how TVR managed to get only 270 bhp out of 5 litres. Impressive underachievement.
I hope you've got a good warranty or deep pockets - engine rebuilds, driveshafts, you name it, it all comes thick and fast with TVR.

Ummm, 270 (285 actually but who's counting ?) out of 5 litres means unstressed, which in turn means ultra-reliable power unit.
When I was at Law Skool (University of London) I encountered a good few Med students displaying early signs of "I think I'm so clever that when I've got my degree I'm going to hang up my listening & learning boots because I know it all already"
Wrong about my spelling and TVR reliability
Heal thyself Doc !

Funny really.
The last time my car was in for a service the garage also had a Chim in for work. They hated working on it, as none of the new parts would fit without major fettling, all the body panels were that badly made.
Still, to each their own. There are plenty of Exiges available which all but match your TVR for power, with considerably less weight. They'll actually go round corners as well as giving your car a thrashing.
If I drive like a loon I **could** also show a 190 Exige a clean set of heels on a public road - and that's with a helluva lot less power than your TVR. Depends how much of a dick you want to be and what liberties you're willing to take. It's hardly an impressive boast either way.
Best,
Philip

I don't think it was a 190
The weight difference is about 10%
fibreglass panels are moulded, not hand beaten , so panel fit is actually pretty consistent
I was taking it easy on new (and imperfect) suspension set up
And keeping it below 4000rpm as within a mile of home (not yet warmed up)
So hardly driving like a dick or a loon !
Y'all shouldn't take it so personally. If I "challenged" a Noble and he kicked my a*se, I certainly wouldn't
Jeeeezussss - handbags at dawn or what !
