Hi guys,

Been looking at Insurance for a S2 Exige 190 and they are crazy! I am 27 and pay £450 fully comp with protected NCB on a TVR Tuscan. However the cheapest quote I have had for the Lotus is £1400! Any ideas what I am doing wrong or why its so different? I mean the Tiv isnt exactly a ford focus.

I assume you have tried some of the specialist insurers - if not try some of those on http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Insurance

Try Henderson Taylor, specialises in these types of car. Have my TVR and Exige with them and they are way cheaper than you are saying here.

I got my policy for my 190 Exige from Competition Car Insurance (0844 8921966) for a crazy cheap price. It was almost half the price of major insurance companies. They also include up to 6 track days for free

They also offered 10% discount for simply being a member of certain Lotus forums, I got mine from being a member of http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/ which is free to join

Sports Racer here and Footman James good, 6 trackdays included etc, etc and the best bit is that unlimited milage is cheaper than limited milage.

The Tuscan benefits from low production numbers, an owner base consisting mainly of enthusiasts, and a low annual mileage average. In essence, the Elise is involved in more accidents and is seen as a higher risk! However looking at the difference in performance, it makes no sense! wobble

I was looking at a few Tamora's last month (3.6L S6 with 350bhp and some impressive 0-100mph times) and obtained a couple of insurance quotes that were a few pence more than my S2 111S! For me, a 2.5L Twin Turbo Noble M12 GTO is over £300 less! eek

It isnt performance that matters - its claim cost. There are lots of family saloons that are as fast in a straight line as an Elise, but they dont have to be written off if a minor bump bends the front suspension mounts for example. Plus the £5k bottom of the Elise market attracts kiddies with more testosterone than common sense, as we all had when young.
