Bought the car 2 week ago and was hoping everything would go smoothly.
Unfortunately not....

I bought a Europa s 2007 two weeks ago. Car has been fine for the first 300 miles i did in the first week. Then on the weekend the car would
not unlock. The doors would lock and alarm arm, but when i tried to unlock; there was just a click from the door. After 10 minutes of
trying it finally let me in.

Got the car home on the weekend after the heavy rain and now it wont start at all. Had a mate look at the car; he said there is no fuel pressure. He cannot hear the fuel pump start and has checked the inertia valve. The locking is on the blink and couldn't unlock it when he came round but the immobilizer light is not on when i try to start.

He also checked the spark plugs as engine was damp after a trip in the rain and looks like i have had water get into cylinder no1.

Any advice would be grateful.

Locking issues sounds like a new battery is needed in the remote. The batteries do not last long! And you need to follow the handbook to set them up.

Total guessing here, but if it has not unlocked via the remote then its possible the cars immobiliser is active hence not starting.

Here’s hoping it’s that simple!

I hope so too... Neither key starts the car and neither fob works 100% on the doors... which makes me think its the car and not the keys?

Its just too much a coincidence that the locks and the engine started playing up on the same weekend... Is there any way to check is its the immoobilizer?

The immobiliser can be disabled, but you need a 4-digit code. This should have come with the car or a Lotus dealer can get it for you on request I believe. The proceedure is also in the owner’s handbook. Not 100% of the procedure but recal the number is entered by turning the key in the ignition for each number of the pin. For the costs involved it really would be worth just trying another battery in the fob. It will need to be teach'ed to the car, but its all in the handbook and should then disable the immobiliser.

The key fobs are supposed to have the batteries changed every year. I would normally ignore this but given in the 3 years of ownership I have had to change the battery twice in one fob, makes me think its might be worthwhile changing anualy.

The last time it started going wrong my car locked, but would not unlock and if I persisted it set the bloody alarm off. Changing the fob battery and re-teaching both fobs cured the issue.

This is exacily what is happening. I will try new batteries and syncing it to the car.

The key fob is a "hu46t12" transponder. It is a sealed unit. As it wont start with either key, and the locking is playing up with both cobra remotes i think it well be the alarm.

I understand what your saying. Its unlikely that both fobs need new batteries, but just think its worth trying the easy stuff first, before sending it to someone who sees the badge and thinks £ signs.

Not sure how the immobiliser is wired. So not sure if it needs to see the remote alarm disarmed and the transponder key before it will start.

I would think it needs both to disable the immobiliser, as there would be no reason for a pin code to disarm the immobiliser. As to start the car via a pin you need a key for the procedure, which, makes me believe it needs both statuses.

1) Remotely disarmed (or pin number procedure)
+
2) Transponder key.

Sorry I am no expert just guessing. I believe the system is a cobra unit so it may be worth contacting cobra.

So does the engine crank over? The engine has an immobiliser system built into the engine ecu and has another unit behind the ignition barrel. The key has a chip built in the head that is a transponder. Unfortunately the Europa has no light to let you know that the immo is at fault but it will crank even with the wrong chip/code! Afaik the Cobra system is mostly an alarm and central locking system but it could be wired to cut the fuel pump and starter. I could check this out given a couple of days... Let me know?
