I picked up a series 1 today and noticed that the stacker temperature display if blank. I drove it for a couple of hours and nothing showed up, the rest of the stacker display seems fine.

Anyone have any experience of this? To me it either sounds like a faulty temp sender but I would be a bit more concerned if it meant there was a problem with the stacker.

Also, if the stacker temp sender if foobared can this impact on the rest of the cooling system in a bad way?

Loving the car BTW....

Probably temp sender. Display should stay blank until about 45 degrees, so sender is probably stuck giving a temperature below 45.

Only risk is you don't know what the temp is.

My advice would be to replace both the Blue (dash) and Brown (ecu) senders at the same time, bleed the system and see if that fixes it smile

Cool - I will change them both out and see what happens.

Thanks

Also, check that it's actually connected and the wires to it aren't frayed or broken wink

Just to close this out - the blank stacker display was indeed caused by a faulty blue sender.

10 minutes to swap the duff one out and it's all sorted.

Nice!

Always great when it works out cheap.

Run the car idle and let it heat up. Check that the fans are coming in at where they should be (about 102 degrees). If they're not, it could also indicate a dodgy brown sender as that's the one the ECU uses to switch the fans... or it could also mean the fan is seized. Just worth checking to make sure everything is in good working order smile
