The car was fine. But it took about an hour to dig enough snow out of the way to allow it to move.

Mine lives outside and has done for a long time now. The key to maintaining reliability is to use it frequently, preferably every day when the weather is bad. If you have them, take the carpet mats out in the winter and put a tea towel on each sill to catch the drips where it leaks.

I do sometimes get condensation on the inside of the roof and that's quite annoying (if I forget to wipe it off...), as is ice on the inside of the windscreen (when I next need to replace it I'm going for one of Geary's [Eliseparts]heated screens).

The Elise did over 1 winter. Other than the "boot" filling up with water and the inside of the screen icing no probs. The Elan would never be left outside... the roof leaks a bit too much!

Yes, all year, but it does have a cover smile

Always been 100% reliable apart from the central locking failing. It's an exige, but figured pretty my the same as an elise in relation to your question.

Hi,

What cover do you use I used one many years ago but it did not do the paintwork any favours.

My VX lived outside and was 100% reliable. However the harsh winters knackered the paint work, bubbled all over the place. Also wasn't much fun scraping ice off the inside of all the windows. When I get another it'll live inside.

Mine was always uncovered until last winter when I decided it would a good idea to use a cover. Paintwork was always fine - until last winter.... Now I have those irritating tiny little bubbles on the top of the doors, both inside and out. Pah. frown

Hi Nick,

Mines from specialised car covers - they do a discount for seloc members if I recall correctly.
Paint is fine - the cover has a soft brushed lining, and I think it uses something like gortex so is also a bit breathable. Great fit too.

cheers

Mine lives outside, 100 per cent reliable, never failed to start, although never been more than 3 or 4 days between driving it.

As for condensation, tip a jug of warm water over the window before you set off, gets rid of any ice on the outside (and inside) and warms both sides of the glass up = no condensation. When it's proper cold (like -10) it's worth using the windscreen wiper straight away if you do that though, as any water left on it freezes pretty sharpish.
