My apologies if this has been posted before, I've had a look and couldn't find anything.

I'd like to change the exhaust on my Elise SC to something which sounds "interesting" but I'm still able to live with on long journeys. A post on the "elise decisions" thread mentioned the "Larini track" exhaust as something with a good throaty sound but wasn't too headache inducing (after it had "sooted up" beyond 1,000 miles)

Does anyone have any other suggestions and also is it imperative to change the induction system as well to gain the most benefit? - Also does the fitment of such aftermarket products invalidate the official warranty ? ( my car's Sept 2010)

Previously I've had a Ferrari 355 with a Tubi exhaust, which became a bit of a drag on long journeys and I presently have a 911/996 4S with a switchable sports exhaust so best of both worlds ! - an exhaust for my Elise which isn't quite as loud as a Tubi and reasonably "civilised" for longer journeys ( I've just done 2,000 miles to Italy and back in the Elise) would be ideal - any suggestions welcome !

Thanks

I fitted the tubi for the 355 what a mistake- might be good for the observers but inside the cabin it ruined the car- between 3 and 4 K it was dire.
I have come to the conclusion that more noise on acceleration means more DRONE at motorway speeds- there is no way around it! and my conclusion from this and other vehicles is that Tubi are awaste of money and there is abetter compromise out there

I had a Tubi on a Maser 4200 and like you I found the boom spolied the car. I swapped it for a Larini and that was far better with hardly any boom. My Exige S has a Lotus Stage 3 exhaust, many say this is horribly boomy. Whilst it may boom slightly at 70 and is generally quite noisey (in a good way) it's absolutely nowhere near as boomy as the Tubi was.

Larini Track or an 8" 2bular system will be ideal for you.
Won't affect your warranty(despite the odd dealer scaremongering to sell Lotus exhausts).
It's the best upgrade you can do to a Toyota engined car smile

I've just fitted a 2bular 8x22 to my 111R. I recorded this to help other people considering an exhaust change:

Indeed! Quiet it ain't!!!

But the OP was commenting on how he's read on here how the Larini 'track' sounded after 1000 miles, as it was a post that I had made but the Larini was the 'sport' I thought I mention it as the track is a lot quieter!

Seeing as we're on the subject of exhausts...

Would anyone happen to know the static and drive-by db levels of the Stage 3 Lotus? (Exige S 240)

I've spoken (via email) to Lotus Technical and they said they *think* it's about 104db on drive by - they don't test the static levels as officially it's a track 'only' system.

Failing that, where can I get it tested in the Midlands (east preferably)?
Tried Donington but no luck.

Cheers.

(apologies for the hijack, OP smile )

I have a Stage 3 on mine (S with 260 upgrade and TRD airbox). I was told it would be 98 Db at 6K rpm. My iPhone says its 102 Db at 6K.

Noise limits at the Ring are 95 Db (100 discretionary) and Spa was 107 DB (103 drive by), I had no problems at either last weekend.

If you plan on De-catting it later, the stage 3 will be too loud for most UK tracks tho.

I have the sport pack on mine, so no sound proofing and had to wear ear plugs on the trip, people following commented it that it sounded awesome `tho. If it`s an everyday car you may find it too much, the pops and bangs are hillarious `tho, especially when passing pedestrians.

Thanks.

I've no problem with the normal driving as regards to noisiness (in fact I absolutely love it!) - I want to get on a UK track with it this year so need to know the noise levels.

I'm thinking of having a bung made for track days - failing that I know I can get a standard box and change it over as and when, but it's a bit of a faff...

But no plans for decatting...yet.

Do you notice much difference with the TRD fitted i.e noise, performance?

Intake noise is a lot louder including the supercharger whine, for the cost I think you'd be mad not to fit a TRD. I can't comment on the performance as I had it fitted the same time as the upgrade.

If your near central Scotland your welcome to have a listen.

I'm debating getting back into an Elise and was thinking of a SC Elise does anyone know though whether a better exhaust and TRD box makes any improvement on BHP.

Also does the SC Elise suffer from heat soak as it doesn't have an inter cooler?

The alternative is get an R and go after market for 280+bhp but I'd rather keep it OEM ie an Exige S240 increased to 260 with remap etc.

Just fancy an Elise though rather than an exige.

Larini quote about 5-10bhp for the less restrictive exhaust not sure about that but I know you'd never live with the way the standard system sounds (or doesn't sound!!!)

The TRD airbox increases throttle response and you can actually hear the SC over the exhaust now at high RPM, The TRD is a 'must have' for only £90 and about an hours easy DIY the car breathes so much easier and I definatly noticed a difference on the first drive out with it smile

I would like to know what you think of the Larini Track exhaust as I'm pretty sure from my research that this is the route I will take although I have never seen/heard one in the flesh?
