Hi'

Lately there has been a small thing that has somewhat spoiled the driving pleasure of my 98' Elise.
A small screw or stone is rolling from side to side underneath the floor when turning in sharp corners and I'm not sure how to get to it, so any help is highly appreciated.
I think it is located around here (see picture):

Thanks in advance
Sune

Have you actually taken the seats out and checked underneath them both?
Always something rattling about under there frown

I haven't. The noise only appears when cornering, not when breaking hard or accelerating, which led me to believe that, whatever the d**m thing is, it is trapped in a space somewhere that runs across the car. But thanks for the tip, I will try to take out the seats - it shouldn't be more than an hour per. seat with my mechanic skills rolleyes

Had a similar rattle with my elise. It would only make a noise when cornering not breaking or accelerating. Turned out to be a small stone under the seats. I managed to get it by doing a few laps of a roundabout and then stopping and fishing it out with some tape on the end of a stick.

Happy hunting.

I had exactly this in my S2 Exige, and it would drive me mad on cornering and coming off roundabout etc. I thought it was something that had come loose behind the speaker/bulkhead panel. However, when removing the seats to fit my Schroth harnesses I found a 5p piece on the floor. It was thin enough to easily slide underneath the centre tunnel with the shifter cable and therefore slide the entire width of the cabin, so I reckon this was the culprit.

And if it's not a coin under the seat?

I managed to pull out a small stone underneath the drivers seat, but didn't have time for a test drive to verify that it was the source of the problem. I'll do that today after work. The stone was small enough to roll under the center console, but it was hard to imagine that it could cause such a loud noise. I'll post an update...

Right. I took the car for a spin yesterday and made some hard right turns to make sure the "thing" ended up in the left hand side of the car. Back home I removed the pasenger seat, but to my surprise I couldn't locate anything. So I went out again without the seat and tossed the car from side to side to see if I could spot anything moving - but I couldn't. Finally, after driving like a maniac, the sliding sound disappeared confused
I think the wreckless driving must somehow have wedged the d**m thing - which is partly ok for now.
But if it comes back I will take a look in the space behind the seats as suggested - and perhaps install a 5 point harness as well.
Thanks for the input.
