Hi,

I have owned my 5A for over 11 years but it's been in the family for over 30 (my dad gave it to me for my 19th birthday).

Anyway i am moving into the second restoration of the "beast" and the first thing i am doing is making a new dash for it. Taking a plug of the original then creating a mould i will make one as new (out of fibreglass not cheap plastic).

But i am wondering if there would be much interest in these dash's if i were to make some more and sell them. Wouldn't be mega bucks just to cover materials and a bit for my time.

Anyway early days yet, just thought i'd put the feelers out there.

Hi,

Replacement fibreglass dashboards used to be available through one of the Scimitar traders, but sadly he is no longer with us and as far as I am aware they are no longer available new. I have seen a few sell on Ebay over the last few years and there have been a few people ask about them, so why not put a post on the Reliant Sabre and Scimitar Owners Club forum:

All the best with your restoration. If you send me some pictures of it, I will put them on my website biggrin

Kind Regards

there was a Guy at Curborough last year approaching stall holders with fibreglass dashes he had made.I think he was surprised at the number of stalls that had secondhand ones for sale, myself included. I have fitted a few fibreglass dashes over the years and I have found they take a lot of work to make them fit correctly esp when the dash top starts its usual movement. Plastic may be cheap but you can achieve a good fit more easily, probably why reliant used it in the first place.
Fibreglass ones do turn up on ebay now and again and if you make a few I am sure they will sell on there.
regards
Geraint

Hi Shoulders,

Not exactly my cup o tea these fibre monsters,
I reckon your Dad would have been better off taking it to the glue factory where it could have been melted down and put to better use.

Rather than spending your valuable time posting this entry would it not have been better spent watching your own choice of car dissolve in front of your eyes.
