Hello everyone, i'm currently looking for a classic to use as a daily and have seen a lovely looking 1977 Scimitar for sale in my price range, however i'm a ford man deep down and i've had no experience of Scimitars whatsoever so i'm looking for a bit of advice as to what bad points to look for if i go to view it? What are they like as daily drivers? Are parts easy to find? Are they expensive to maintain? And any other things good or bad about them.
Thanks in advance.

Mark.

Parts are releativley easy to find althoug some trim parts are getting rare. The main weak points are chassis rot, cooling system, front suspension and electrics. Electrical problems are usually down to bad earthing but the wiring can also become brittle as well. The cooling system is just about adequate if well maintained. There are plenty of methods for improving it though. The suspension is based on a Triumph design (TR6). Trunions need to be greased reguarly and the wishbone bushes checked.

On the plus side most Scimitars will have Stainless steel exhaust systems and petrol tanks. The SE5, 5A cars are a more sporty drive than the 6. They are quite fun to drive and with overdrive allow for relaxed cruising on the motorway.
