The little lumps and pimples on my paintwork were bothering mr a bit today, so I phoned a respected bodyshop for a "rough" estimte over the phone to paint my se5a. Quoted 100 hours labour just to take the car apart at refit, without actually painting costs in that 100 hours. Looking at TEN THOUSAND POUNDS apparently..... Not bad for 4 weeks work... I might get a couple more quotes first!! That would probobly buy me a couple of Concourse Scimitars!

I have copies of the time sheets for my GTC respray. It's over 300 hours of labour! The problem comes if it needs major gel coat work. Some glass fibre specialists will quote for a new gel coat on an older car as you can't tell the condition of the body underneath the paint.

As an example:

Under all that grey high build primer on the wing is a jigsaw puzzle of bits of glass fibre bonded together with body filler. The proper way to fix it is to cut it all out and build up a new wing.

Having said that there are cheaper glass fibre specialists out there.

Yeah, not disputing that Labour costs money, 100 hours of me repairing Central Heating is not cheap!
