hi guys. Having got my SE5a running sweetly, hot starting is still an issue. For cold it starts absolutely instantly with no throttle, but when warm it is a PIG. I have relocated the coil away from above the manifold which look a stupid place to put it in the first place, and thought I had cured it. Alas not, is it fuel evaporation or auto choke problems which I should look at next??

Have you got a K&N air filter housing? If so switch to the Ford pan type.

Yes it has got a K&N, does that cause evaporation?

Or an electric fuel pump should sort it but position it near the tank.

Yes it can do. Putting the air intake directly above engineis not really a good idea as it will just suck in air heated by the engine when stationary.

The Ford pan type would make it worse, this takes air from about 3 above the nearside exhaust manifold.

Hot starting is not a problem on my SE5a, with the standard Ford air filter housing.

I have seen cars with the fuel pipe fixed to the top metal radiator pipe and thought that this is not a good idea as it will get the fuel very hot before it enters the carb, make sure the petrol pipe is away from the top water pipe.
