Morning All,

I’m in the market for an Se5 Scimitar to compliment my current stable, I want it to be tax exempt... and prefer the look, but might be pursuaded into an Se6. What are the relative merits of each?

I have a few questions that the experts may be able to help me with;

I’m 6ft 3” and of large build (!!) not having ever driven one; how are they for size inside? will I fit ok, headroom-wise and legs / knees under steering wheel?

I’m after a really nice Se5, what is the realistic going rate for either a fully restored one / or immaculate original example?

Leading on from this - anyone know any good ones for sale?

Cheers All,

Steve

In terms of size a 5 might be a squeeze but a 6 will be fine. The 5 is more sporty in feel than the 6 but it is quite a bit smaller. It certainly feels a lot smaller inside.

As for what to look out for: http://www.scimitarweb.com/buysecondhand/ is a reasonable guide to what to look for. Buying privately I wouldnt spend over 3K on one. So I guess 4 - 4.5k from a dealer. The main problem with finding a mint one is the bodywork. If the car has had a respray (very likley if mint) try and find out the cost who did it and if it was done by a fibregalss specialist. Cheap resprays usually indicate that any stress cracks, other damage have been repaired with bodywork filler rahter than grinding out and laying fibreglass.

Yeah, there are some real bargains out there, £1000 won't buy a minter, but will buy something very presentable. £3-3.5 and it should be bang on. I'd put trim and electrical condition above everything except chassis condition.

Look out for accident damage and rusty underneaths. I drive a 6a and get the impression that they are less trouble than 5/5as which have steel reinforcement buried in the fibreglass. The 6a is a real A-road cruiser, 300 miles is no trouble. I reckon the 4sp with O/d is great fun, but the (horrid) gearchange needs getting used to.

Get on board, at these prices it's rude not to.

I don't think you will have a problem, im a 6'4 & I have no problems- although I am worried about the low seat back, if I were to have a crash.

Good luck with the hunt!
