Hi all...im thinking of buying a scimitar...and am going to look at one onight..only thing is its an automatic, not overly keen on auto's but just wanted to hear your opinions on them, is there a huge power loss? many thanks in advance.

Mines an auto and I've driven a manual a few times and I didn't notice any real difference. I didn't think I would like an auto and I was going to change it to a manual but I haven't bothered as I quite like the auto. sue
The condition of the car is far more important than if it's manual or auto in my opinion.
You do get slightly more MPG out of a manual compared to an auto

if you want a manual--->buy a manual..its not even worth thinking about it to convert an automatic to a manual, as there are too many cars on the market which you can choose from.
also in my opinion the automatic suits well the essex engine. there is enough torque. the scimitar is a "cruiser" and not a "nervous" sports-car.
the only thing you need to check is if the kickdown works (often the kickdown cable is disconnected...whyever...maybe the owners changed the carb to a manual chocke-type and there wasnt the linkage to connect the kickdown cable..stupid owners!!)
in general: if an automatic gearbox is well maintained its more reliable than a manual with overdrive (gearboxes themselves are more less undestroyable but the overdrive could fail).
