Hi everyone

I've been tempted by a rarity near me, a '93 Sabre 1400. One of the last of the Scimitar SS1 line I guess. Does anyone have any info about how good/ bad/ indifferent these cars are? I'm guessing galvanised chassis and K series lump?

sabre is the same mechanicals as the SS1s, but with one piece fibreglass body and galvanised chassis (as per later SS1s). they use a ford diff and rear brakes, ford gearbox with caterham bellhousing, with 1400 K series. suspension is trailing arm rear (near identical to TVRs of the same era) and vauxhall chevette front double wishbones. they are quite pretty but have usual small production run finish a la lotus/TVR of late 80s, eraly nineties.
Handle really nicely, and just enough power, but definitely not a ferrari tamer. think brit MX5 and you wont go far wrong in performance terms.
weak points are 'adequate' front brakes and crap std front shocks.
Parts are genrally avaialble easily from marque specialists except body panels (its glass so easy enough to repair) and odd bits of trim. loads of seconhand bits from rotten SS1s with non galv chassis'.

Had the very same model, good handling, decent power after a slight modification to the restricted throttle body, electrics a bit dodgy but that's just normal. Definetely recommend buying one, and a turbo K series out of a Rover 75 or a VVC would be a fairly easy upgrade??
