Essex V6 with about 215bhp 4-speed Box, 970kgs.
A few minor mods to be done and then she be ready to take on anything that challenges.
Waiting for next year and the season to start.

Circuit Racing with the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) Swinging Sixties Series.

I gonna replace the triple carbs with a single since they flood on the stratline and don't let you pull away properly. This will be performed by Iain Daniels and then she will be ready to go.

I'm not to o-fey on Scims but am learning about them all the time and it seems to be quite a easy car to work one unlike others i've worked on.

that car is awesome, last saw it in the AMOC cant remember which of their series but it was in about the third class (class 1 being modified over 4000cc, 2 being road legal over 4000cc) and it was a very fast car around Mallory (4th place overall IIRC) and class winner. Think it was in the hands of Luke Wos then, his dad being the owner.

keep us posted as to when & where you'll be racing it and i'll come and cheer you on thumbup

Yes thats right, Bought the car off Luke Wos who I'm good friends with, and I shared the car with him at Snett at the end of last season where I was only 2 seconds of his fastest time which was proud of.

Luke now races his dad's Marcos 3 litre since his dad doesn't race anymore.

I will be racing the Scim in the CSCC Swinging Sixties Series in 2007 against Luke and many others.

Be good to see you! Thecalader for next year is nearly finalised check out www.classic-club.co.uk for dates and places.

thanks for the link, i'll definitely come and cheer you on at least twice next season. If you can peddle the car within 2 secs of Luke's time round snetterton then you will be doing the car and yourself justice racing it. I haven't got the budget or the talent to race myself but that is the 1 car (well after the old ADA Pantera and Steve O'Rourke's 935 ) that i would like to race, it just looks so good and rare on the track.

i wish you all the best with it, will it be keeping the colour scheme?

regards
Nick

Hi, I`m new to pistonheads so Hello to you all! I was just looking at your Scimitar Johny.... if you remove the gauze over the carbs bellmouths it will allow the fuel to standoff from it and will proberly cure the flooding problems, I had the same prob years ago on an HWM! Have Fun,
Regards Alastair.

It sure will be.

I like it in it's colours and I will get the bonnet re-done to match.

Only mechanical things will be changed, Externally it will stay the same.

the car will hopefully be at Mallory Park on Tues 27th March for my first proper drive in it to then iron out any probs and then on to the race season.

Hi Johnny,

Be good to see you out in the car this year, should be competitive in the swinging sixties?? Have you considered doing some rounds of the RSSOC speed championship too? Plenty of quality circuits on the calendar this year and that car would be well on the pace and a very welcome addition.

Paul.

Hi Johhny,
welcome to the scimitar scene.
looks a nice piece of kit, and as Turbster says, be nice to see you do the odd RSSOC speed series meet too. Be good company for Turbsters motor ;-) (see profile pics)
Poor old Iain 'Danny' Daniels must be flat out sorting all those GTEs out.

Hi Turbster/CNHSS1,

I had a lonnnng chat with Danny yesterday about the car as he knows it from its previous life as a sprint car in the R before the last owner bought it for racing.

I don't think it will keep up with your car Turbster as I remember seeing it at Danny's shop when you and him were building it. It is a stunnig piece of kit and in the state mines in I think you could measure the gap with a calender on times. As Danny said its all down to my wallet as there is alot you can do to make them go fast, but first I want it to handle before touching the engine. But I will keep the triples and have Danny set them up correctly so I can pull away off the line without it dying due to over-flooding.

I will definatly join the RSSOC and maybe come and do a few sprints at Curborough mainly as I first drove there when i was 10hehe learning clutch control. Or Prescott.

I can't wait to drive it again and with all the niggles sorted out (like taking the igniton barrel out so the steering lock doesn't come on during mid corner like it did at Snett at the end of last season) it will hopefully be a mid to top grid car in its current form.

Turbster, out of intrest what gearbox do you run? Is it a standard one, or are you able to get hold of a improved version of the weak capri 4-speeds?

I'm running a race spec BGH Geartech 4 speed box, ratios are all different and I think they're around £500-600 exchange. As for the triples mine was doing a similar thing i.e not picking up for the first hundred yards from the start and it was mostly all down to the plugs fouling, 4k+ off the start sorted it 85% with the 7es plugs and some super4 Bosch plugs seem to have solved the problem completely. Jetted it correctly and it's now spot on...
Just out of interest I was thinking of entering mine in the swinging sixties and made a calculated guess of my single lap of Cadwell after the sprint and it would've been a couple of seconds quicker than last years pole. Obviously the harder/narrow tyres would make a difference, but having said that the weather wasn't great!!

That would be interesting!

Would put those 7's and E-Types in their place.

Yes you would either have to run yokos or dunlops witch aren't as sticky as what you are probably running on in the sprint C'ship.

Was that Nick Bowman's car?

As Paul says, Brian Hill (BGH) is your man for Ford boxes - not sure I would describe the Capri 4-spd as 'weak', though, particularly in comparison with the 5-spd Type 9.

Looks to me like you would benefit from a proper seat - especially for racing - is that on your list of changes? If not you can 'just' fit a Sparco Pro 2000 inside a Scimitar.

Otherwise happy hunting - I don't generally venture beyond Wiscombe, Gurston and Longleat but I might get to Prescott this year and perhaps see you there.

All of which reminds me that it's already January and my shopping list features

Trailer
Tyres
Clutch
Engine
Post-Wiscombe bodywork repairs

which means I'm in for a few busy weekends.
