Spotted, Yellow one - on my drive!
Discussion
Seems to have been a bit quiet in Scimitar PistonHeads so:
Sun was out today and the chassis has been back from the powder coaters for a couple of weeks so I thought I'd take the opportunity to take a couple of 'for posterity' pictures before it all gets hidden under the body work.

Still a way to go but getting there.

'Is that John Morris' old Scimitar'
Slinky,
No mate, all my own work. Current car (Ram Cobra 11.63/128) is not fast enough, you know how that is right?, so decided to knock something up with a bit more potential - same spec engine Alan Simms is running but with torqueflite box. Bit of a long-ish term project, 4 years and counting - might be out next season if it stops raining.

Nick,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Diagonal brace - yes you're quite right to ask. When I first built the cage it had one - drivers side top to passenger side bottom. I built what I would've put into a 'rally' car. However, what you now see is exactly as directed in the MSA drag race handbook indicated as the requirement for full bodied car with original frame and body 7.50s or slower. It at least mounts the belts off the crossmember behind the seats. I too find it bizzare that I would have had a full diagonal if it was up to me but the regs say it's not needed. You are looking at 40mm OD, 3mm wall CDS2 steel here though, which by the way is an absolute bas***d to bend!
The frame does actually exceed the MSA requirements in that the door locks now pick-up off the cage by the cross car beam and the upper door hinge also picks-up the door frame front downtubes as does the cross car steering column/dash beam.
What I will say is that I am happy in the knowledge that what I have fitted is an order of magnitude (or two or ten!) stronger than the single 1" diameter thinwall tube that went up the B post and across the roof originally - and I could actually run in a number of classes with no cage at all! On my car this tube had been cut through in any case to mount the Webasto roof (now replaced by a vinyl covered f/glass panel).

Fairy nuff.
I mentioned it because the scrutineers have been coming down hard on cages at hillclimbs this season, and I've seen people sent away from events despite 'classic' six-point cages in road-registered cars with less than 200bhp.
Different sport, different science different rules, I guess.

Hi Russ,
Superb pictures!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see the finished Scimitar
Is it ok if I add the pictures to the "modified motors" section on my website?
I wish I had the money and the time to build such a beast
Best Wishes
