Continental Spotted!! Switzerland
Discussion
Back on the 26th Aug to be precise, first in Lauterbrunnen, and then again in Interlaken, a Green Chimaera, closely followed by a blue Elise - was music to my ears, far too many MX5's in those parts :hehe:
I was just finishing a two week stint running an Air Cadet trip to the Alps, just a shame the second week had a few, erm, issues... The camp site spent two days being an island, and i'm sure many being in the same boat, we couldn't get out of Interlaken for four days, if we'd have wanted to
Interesting times, but good to see you, if you're here!

Hello - good to see someone spotted us in our Euro epic. T'was me in the Chim, and my mate in the Elise - four of us in total. We went down trough France, stayed in Cannes, Nice, a day in Monaco (circuit was a little busy) then on to San Remo, Genoa, then back through the Alps. We stayed two nights in Interlaken - was by far the friendliest place we'd been. Funny laws though.
Whilst there we went up the Schilthorn (of 007 fame) which was for me the pinnacle of the trip.
Despite a lot of teeth sucking from mates/work colleagues, the cars behaved exceptionally throughout.
We actually had no problems with the floods - although the lakes were lapping the sides of the road - we just stuck to the higher (and more interesting) roads on the way back via Lausanne.
Hope the cadets enjoyed themselves despite the water - i'm based at Colerne at the moment taking the little chaps/chapettes on air experience flights

Ah ha!! Sounds like you were lucky with the weather, I ran two week long trips, the second one getting back to Interlaken on Sunday 21st, just as all hell broke loose...
Interlaken is a great place as you say, had a good few nights out with the locals - where did you stay?
Interesting also that you're at Colerne, some of our lot (Herts & Bucks Wing) were with you a month or so ago!
Cheers,
Tony
I can't remember the name of the hotel - it was run by a guy called Fritz (and his family). It's near the junior school just to the south of the town centre. Fritz takes people paragliding during the day - it looked awesome but unfortunately we didn't have time.
We spent a few nights in hooters (wa-hey!)- on the second night there was some commotion with the large hotel down the road - street cordons, fire engines and stuff. Couldn't really work it out - looked to be either a bomb threat or a gas leak.
We were there on the nights of the 25&26th - the road up to the Schilthorn (Murren) was clear, although had obvious damage to the railway alongside. We set off west through an awesome road that led over a col and down into Lausanne area - lots of caterhams and superbikes enjoying it too!

Sounds like you were out Matten way - we were in Camping Jungfraublick, just before you go over the Motorway towards Wilderswil and up to Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen etc.
The incident on Friday night was, as far as we were told, due to a bolt of water making its way down the river towards Wilderswil, so there was a huge alert and evacuation in case it came over/through the banks again. They closed the road for 30 minutes or so, and scrambled the boats etc, but it all passed ok in the end. Spent Friday night in a place called the Caverne Club, under a hotel that may be the one you mentioned - mad place!
As for Paragliding, if you've never done it, DO IT! Five of us staff went up the Friday before, nerve wracking, but certainly worth it!
