900turbo FWD or Rwd
Discussion
Hi guys. Recently sold my old classic and fancy a new toy. Wishing to stick with Saab I wondered what the old 900 was like. Both in regards to drive, tuning and fun/reliability.
So looking at a few pic I've found one that's engine is longitudinally mounted and just think hmm is it Rwd? If do even better or am I off by miles?
TIA
Olly

Wow just skimmed that thread but thanks so much matey. I see hours of reading there.
I've tuned my 9-3 and plan more but I have a real soft spot on the pre '90 900. The FWD parts suits me as it'll have similar carichteristic to mine.
Eta - yes I'll be getting a Turbo. They are the only way to fly
Hmmm now for convincing the mrs. Lol

Yep, FWD - but a great handling car, without many of the faults of most FWD cars. Because the engine is lengthways there's room for a double wishbone setup at the front, and the equal length driveshafts mean no torque-steer. I love driving mine.
Tuning is easy. Mine was an low pressure turbo when I got it. A stock intercooler from a full turbo and a simple boost valve means 200ish bhp and loads of torque. Full turbos can see nice gains for little cost - a few tweaks to the APC, a bigger intercooler and a bigger bore exhaust will probably get you up to 250.
Oh, and they aren't pre-90 - up to '93, or '94 for the soft-top.

Wow my 9-3 now handels very well. (next mods are viggen clutch, quaif LSD and a high flow intercooler.)
I am torn big time. I am considering swapping the 9/3 in for a new toy. I.e. A 300zx tt or an MR2 turbo. But I really love Saab and would love to keep mine and a 900.
Seriously stuck here. Mrs says up to me. :s

Whooosh.......... I was talking about the C900 handling favourably againgst a 9-3 rather than negatively
But, the youngest C900 is 17 years old now, and almost all of them will be showing their age in some way......so I guess it depends on what you want out of a car?
I think a 900 Turbo will be on the cards. The Mrs is keen on one of the following for a toy.
Saab 900 Turbo
Nissan 300zx Z32
Toyota MR2 mk3 Turbo.
All I need to do is sell a bike and that should produce some redies towards it. Or should I flog everything and buy a daily runner of epic proportion.
