Hi

I have an 06 9-3 convertable which is a 1.9 diesel. I had it chipped by the dealership when I got it puttng it up to 175 bhp from the standard 150 (IIRC).

A couple of years ago I had it back to Saab as it was giving too much hesitation when pulling away from stationary which could have been dangerous. I am getting a feeling that it is just starting to do it again.

I spoke with an AA chap yesterday who told me (and pointed out) that there was a valve which allowed for exhaust gasses to run back into the air intake once the temperature got up to 1500 degrees so as to inhibit combustion so as to reduce temperatures. [Apologies if this is incorrect but it is what I recall from the conversation - I am no mechanic!! smile ) It was this that was sticking which meant that the gases were coming through at lower temps which could account for the sluggish take off.

Anyway he said that it was relatively simple to blank this off so that the valve was by passed.

My question relates to whether all this is correct and whether anyone has had experience of this?

cheers

Sounds like he might have been talking about EGR valve. To be honest there are lots of problems with that engine that are well documented. Take a look at saabscene forum and see which sounds like it might be the case. If it is EGR you probably can just clean it out.

Does sound like the EGR valve to me ironicly i cleaned mine today after sluggish starts scary at times.
I bought the car s/h i took it to a dealer who tested the valve through the ECU they said it was ok but advised me to clean which worked.
Once removed i could presss the spring in with my thumb the return was slow and jerky it was very sooty half hour cleaning with brake cleaner as new again.biggrin
Simple DIY job or replace valve about £100 car is much more responsive now.

it does sound like a egr but i would have a quick look at the swirl rod which sits on the intake manifold. see if its broken off.

Had a similar experience, I thought it might be the EGR, but it turned out to be a dodgy injector. Now that it has been replaced all has been fine for last 10k miles
