Which Diesel do I go for?

I'm into the old Saab's - I have a '95 Aero, and know very little about new Saab's. My nephew has asked me for some advice on which Saab to go for (he think's I'm a Saab Expert 
) ...he has £3k absolute max to spend.
2.2, 3.0V6, 1.9?
I'm also a bit of a numpty on the differences between Linnear, Arc, Vector, Vector Sport.
All advice is welcome

Linear - Bog spec.
Arc - Luxury comfort spec
Vector - Sporty spec
Aero - Balls out sport spec wiv extra added luxuries! (only available with the Aero 2.3HOT engine, no diesels)
2.2D is old but servicable, bit noisy though.
3.0V6 is a belter of an engine, but will be very leggy at that money and is prone to going boom.
1.9D GM/Fiat newer diesel engine, good, but likely to be tricky to find at that money.
