Minor faults on my new toy........
Discussion
I have recently bought a 1996 120k full history 900 convertible to potter around with the kids for the summer, I use the term potter because its the 2 litre N/A. Thankfully I'm not planning on getting anywhere quickly.
The car is absolutely immaculate and really is a credit to it's previous owners with just a couple of niggling little things to bug me. The first is the stereo, it is the Grundig unit with the six disc autochanger, and all works fine, except for the fact that it won't store radio stations and always reverts to disc one track one when you turn the ignition off. Also the autochanger has no power to it unless the ignition is on. I was expecting to find a bit of a bodge job behind the dash to re-install the original head unit after removal of an after market jobbie but it appears to all be original unmolested wiring and original plugs, however there is clearly no permanent live to the unit.
Secondly neither my remote boot release or central locking work. There is documentary evidence of an alarm with remote central locking having been fitted at some point but no physical sign of the alarm now. Are any of these common little Saab niggles with an easy fix or is it time to dig out the test lamp and a wiring diagram? A quick nosey through the fusebox hasn't revealed any that are blown.
ETA that it feels as if my handbrake isn't working on the O/S, is this likely to be a nice straightforward case of some lubrication on the arm on the caliper or are they prone to something more sinister?

The Stereo appears to have the constant live and switched live the wrong way around, common on these if the stereo has been replaced and the original put back for sale.
Alarm may well have been subject to the common service theft alarm msg nd then the alarm constantly going off for no reason, Saabscene etc has this well documented. probably removed as very expensive to fix.
Handbrake cant help with sorry!

handbrakes are always rubbish on them i always ask the garage to tighten it everytime i visit, .
i have had 2 cabs and only realised last week thatyou can activate the anti locks and alarm by turning the key in the door, anti clockwise, .maybe if u do that it will trigger the central locking, because my c/l failed a few times in the winter, i also fixed it by just randomly pushing the door pusher up and down, until it worked again, i heard it costs a lot to fix that bit
as for radio, i dont know, but i think the standard unit looks better than a lot of these aftermarket josbs, only once did mine fail, i took it to a radio place and they fixed it for 30quid
i also learnt that if you hold down the loud button, for a few seconds, 'speed on' appears on the pixel screen, which makes the sound go louder the faster the car is going, which is useful.
