Which Saab convertible?
Discussion
Thinking of getting a Saab convertible in the next month. The 900's seem far more interesting than that 9-3's but a 900 Turbo would probably be above budget. I understand that from '94 the 900's/9-3's are GM cars.
So for £2-3k should I be looking for an N/A 900 or a later turbo 900/9-3'S? The 900's seem the better/more interesting cars but the later GM models seem to have the better engines.

As a convertible, the 9-3 actually works well - the main draw of the 'real' 900 is that it's a more engaging drive but then you'd want a metal roof and a turbo engine rather than a ragtop and the N/A version which is really rather slow by todays standards. I'd aim for a low pressure turbo 9-3 convertible - lovely cruiser and stonking VFM.

Something like this? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1615251.htmWhy would you recommend the LPT engine?
Doesn't look too shabby indeed. LPT engine goes nicely with the character of the car, you don't need the histrionics of too much power going through the front wheels in the Cavalier-based 900/9-3s especially in the less than totally rigid ragtops. Drive a Viggen convertible for a laugh if you're not convinced.

I hear you. Just after some retro rag-top to trundle around in during the summer. Had considered the older Audi 80 style cabrios or maybe the E36's but a Saab just seems much better VFM and less potential hassle.drivin_me_nuts said:
Saab 900 T16s convertible if you can get your hands on a decent one is top of the list. Lovely cars (if not a little wobbly) and just feel a lot more special than any of the cars that replaced it. Look to spend £5k or there abouts. Pretty much minimal depreciation, though grp 18 ins
They are a lot more than I want to pay. £5k requires a commitment to a car and I'm not that enamoured by them.Gassing Station | Saab | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
