9-3 diesel engine hicuping
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
Anyone had this before? The engine sometime hicups a few times like a serious misfire. It is most noticeable at low revs but doesn't seem to happen with any regularity or any particular time of day. Could it be the EGR valve? The garage has had it and couldn't find any problem and it didn't happen for them, typical. It did it while pulling away at a T junction the other day which bogged the engine down and was quite scary.
Any help much appreciated.

i would try getting hold of the wiring which goes to injector 3 and move it about . There is a kit that saab fit where we replace the wiring and plug because the wiring brakes. its normal only injector 3 so just do the one but when u move it u can make the engine missfire. hope this helps
For future reference I did remove the EGR valve and boy was it full of crap. The solenoid pin was also sticking. Cleaned both up with the help of hot water soap and Carb cleaner and so far seems spot on. All told you could probably do it in about and hour if pressed. I have heard stories where the problem comes back a few weeks later and therefore forced to replace the valve so I will let you all know how it goes.

Interesting this. My 150 Tid Sportwagon exhibited a slight missing on my daily commute Oxford-LHR a few months ago, just the odd one. It has developed up to a point where it will now do it more frequently, and it is always around 1500 rpm on a steady throttle, whether cold, during warm-up or fully hot. I have read all the Vectra forum stuff, and yesterday I whipped all the injector pugs off and gave them a squirt of Maplins switch cleaner, but the problem is still there, if anything a smidgeon worse, so i think I'm on the right track (no pun intended). However, at no time have I had any sign of the EML. Also the swirl plate system is working OK, and recently I did an EGR clean-up, just a bit of coke in there, nothing much, and the solenoid is clean as a whistle and moves freely and correctly.
I am going to carry oput the No. 3 injector plug mod anyway, but natch, being a tight git, I don't want to pay an extortionate price at the Saab dealership for a GM part with a Saab badge on the box, so anyone know of a source of the kit at reasonable cost?

Sorted. The wiring kit was only £15.60 inc vodka & tonic from the Saab dealer, and 45 mins to do. Car now more responsive and no more misfire. The contacts on the offending plug were sha66ed; they wouldn't even grip a piece of card the thickness of the blades in the injector. The new modified contacts are tighter and different design. Strange how the heat around the No. 3 inj is more than the others, given that there is a whacking great thick foam cover over the top of the engine. I may eventually renew the others, although I found that they were quite tight. Next step will be to remove, decoke and clean up the manifold assembly. Fun & games.....
