Afternoon,

As the title suggests, we need a big car, I'd like to get back into Saabs and the 9-5 estate seems to offer a lot of car for the money.

We are looking for a facelift car, less than 40,000 miles, no sat nav, as many extras as possible in, silver (could be swayed into another colour), roof rails and phone prep would be good.

What do you think I should pay and does anyone have one they are looking to shift?

Cheers

Wanting boring silver helps here as you are wanting one of the most popular colours which will help.
You haven't said whether you want auto or manual..?
Manual will be harder to find, most post-06 Aero's are autos.
I would have though you would be looking in the £10-15k bracket depending on private sale or trader or Saab dealer and mileage etc.
In the current climate buying an approved used one from a Saab may be a good bet as they may be more inclinded to deals at the moment.

Not overly fussed about auto or manual. so far we have the following offers (all from local dealers).
(all aero hot, estate).

06, blue 55k miles manual, no roof rails £9,500
07, jan 07 silver 41k miles, sat nav, hk audio, memory seats , lots of other stuff £11,500
07, June 07 Gun metal, 27k miles £11,500

I suspect it is a toss up between the last two.

I've got cash waiting so if anyone fancies doing me a better deal...

We need ipod in and I'll have to put bluetooth in it.

Thoughts

Agreed.

Do you know what the spec is on the last one...?

The 41k miler with the HK audio and leccy seats sounds the right spec, even though it has the Nav.
Pretty sure the 06-on cars have aux in for Ipod thingy...?

The last one is standard spec. The one with sat nab has no aux in which is a pain. We'd probably rip the nab
out and replace with something iPod/USB/phone compatibe.

Going for another look tomorrow

That won't be easy or cheap to do as it has the factory HK audio upgrade, and changing head units is not easy to do with that system.
If all that gubbins stuff is that important to you, youre better off looking for a car with the standard audio, as it's far easier to swap out.

Hope you've not bought one yet as there is an 07/07 Aero estate auto in silver with 25k on the clock for 12k on auto trader.
So what you say? But this one has the full Hirsch kit.

300bhp upgrade
Hirsch twin exhaust
Hirsch suspension
Upgraded brakes
18" hirsch wheels (needed to cover the upgraded brakes)

This lot is not cheap, somewhere above 5k but probably less than 10k worth of quality kit.

Plus, it doesn't even have satnav! But it does have a parrot bluetooth! Its your perfect car! You can contact me later for the finders fee biggrin !!

And I know someone that has a 07 Aero Estate with all of that kit on and it's makes for a cracking car.... the suspension is especially good, with a nice compliant and well controlled ride.

I've seen the add, it is very interesting, however..

A) there is no mention of it anywhere on the dealers site (even if I put in the reg no)
B) I wonder how much grief the upgrades will give me longer term (ie add to the running costs).

My local dealer has dropped the jan 07 car to £11250 (so I can spend £250 shoving bluetooth and ipod in), it has every option available at the time apart from a sun roof. It has just been serviced, has a new mot and four new tyres..

I'm struggling to think of a reason not to buy it.. I know I could get slightly lower miles or slightly less cash but this is 5 miles away, saab approved, with a years warranty. AA roadside etc...

What would you lot do?

I wouldn't worry about the quality of the upgrade stuff, its all saab warranty approved. Insurance could be more troublesome, tyres a bit more, probably brake consumables. The dealer one near you does seem to have a higher spec interior wise.
The hirsch car would be more desirable to sell on later i would imagine though so any extra costs may be offset by higher resale. May be worth a few calls to check the hirsch car in more detail, if its not already sold of course.
Good Luck!

No significant extra costs involved.
18" tyres will be a bit more than 17", and maybe 10% extra or so for insurance, but other than that not a lot. The brake upgrade even uses generic GM parts (same 345mm front brakes as VXR's)

No sunroof is a good thing, as headroom is reduced and they can end up rattling etc.
If it's got ever extra apart from that it should have the HK audio upgrade, which will mean you will have to budget a lot more than £250 to add ipod into it if you are talking about hardwired connection.
Bluetooth isn't too bad to do, but ipod isn't.

Yep it has the hk upgrade aswell. I've asked a couple of fitters for costs then will decide. If I get time later I will call about the upgraded car.
