I got myself a Saab 900 con turbo (88) a wee while back and it's time now to garage it up and work on her over the winter. The only real concern I have with regards to the work ahead is that the cruise isn't working and second is tight over to get it in. What's the thoughts on what's up.

With the cruise control it's a case of working through everything methodically. Easiest thing to check are the brake/clutch pedal switches - both times mine has given me a problem it was the clutch pedal switch adjustment.

To be honest it is a tricky to track down problems as there are so many components scattered throughout the car - worth investing in the Bentley workshop manual which gives a lot of good detail.

What's the problem with 2nd? Could just be linkage needs adjusting, or synchro - as I'm sure you will know they're not the strongest gearbox, especially pre-89 on a turbo...

Cheers Ncot. I've been doing some research and ordered some manuals. I am going to be taken it apart over the winter and renewing a lot of parts so keep listening for when I get stuck smile. I might get the gearbox reconned or swapped out, and hopefully the cruise is a vacuum/switch problem

Here's the manual you want:

Check out the gearbox before swapping out - they can last pretty well if you are mechanically sympathetic. My 170k miles T16S is still on its original box.

Whereabouts are you?

I might just buy that...cheers. I'll check the gearbox first before I do anything. I'm in Central Scotland near Stirling.
