K reg 9000 2.0 turbo auto problem

Hi there,

I have a problem with my 9000 auto which I hope you can diagnose....

Car is a K reg 2.0 turbo auto 125k

When cold, gears engage with a 'whining' sound, once hot it wont engage at all the engine just revs - similar to a slipping clutch in a manual, however I can then turn the car off & on it will work (for a short while).

Any clues?

Sounds like the bands are goosed and time for a replacement gearbox or an overhaul.

That may be so but I'd go for a cheaper fix first. Replace the transmission fluid. Don't top it up, drain and replace. I had the same problem over 20K miles ago and it's been OK since.
