Hi guys, well about a month ago i bought a Saab 93 2lt turbo. I was under the impression it was a LPT due to the lack of boost guage. This is where it gets confusing, my coleague has a Volvo s60 2.0 turbo and at work earlier we were comparing our cars using parkers website. His car is shown to be quicker in every way, it has 180bhp compared to my 150, the 0-60 times mines about a second slower. We work on a large military training ground so decided at 2am to go for a play, with the fear of sounding like a chav here, my saab completely owned the vulva sorry volvo.

We swapped cars and sure enough both agree the saab feels like it boosts a lot harder than the volvo, we went back to parkers and then did the comparison using the hpt figures and sure enough the hpt is quicker than the volvo.

Now i'm aware that my car is a lpt however i'm wondering if the previous owner has already done the hpt ECU upgrade that i'm planning next month, that would explain the way my saab is as quick as it is. Is there any way of telling what ecu i have as i don't want to spend circa £150 on an ecu that my car already has fitted.

Both cars have scarily similar histories, both on 61k miles both fully serviced and both of us weigh the same. Have i just got a faster lpt? i hear not all are the same its a bit pot luck.

Thanks in advance i just don't want to waste cash on something not needed.

Bring it to a rolling road. smile Beforehand I'd have a hard look at the vacuum line to the turbo wastegate though, to see if a prior owner doesn't happen to have a bleed valve of some sort installed which would be a not so good thing...

Hi mate thanks for reply, i happen to know there is no add on bits like that in the engine because my coleague who is also a chav was encouraging me to buy one, when he explained how it works it put me off, am i right in thinking it creates a leak or something to trick the turbo into boosting more pressure?

The point being made was you can't use one on a T7 controlled Saab engine as the ECU will throw a hissy fit.
