Any ideas appreciated as to the cause of my problem.

Driving in fifth today up a hill, engine still not completely warm, tried to change down to fourth, no change of gear, tried third, no change, second, no change, stopped the car and turned it off.
Tried starting it again, bit hesitant but started, into first gear.

I then ran the battery down because I was in a dangerous bend on a road and tried bumping it downhill in reverse to a straighetr stretch, didn't work ,battery now flat, charging it to test gears again.

ps: clutch pedal seems as normal.

As I said, ideas welcome!

Is the gear lever moving?

In my mind there's a few possible things.

Firstly, could be the gearbox has lunched itself. Were there any noises? Is there still drive getting to the wheels?

It could still be the clutch. I had a gear selection problem a while back that turned out to be a worn clutch, but there was no slipping, it would just grind/refuse to change gear.

The RHD 900s have a bar that goes across from driver's side (pedal) to the pass side where the master cylinder is behind the bulkhead. Sometimes the pivot point hole gets enlarged and causes slop in the clutch pedal action. The thingy pin can be replaced with a bigger one to cure this.

The other thing is that one of the welds on this bar can break - happened to me and still left me with a normal feeling clutch somehow, but no gear selection.

Last 2 are cheap on parts but labour intensive as the dash needs to come out, esp for welding in the latter.

Clutch not too bad on c900 as it's on the back (front!) of the engine.

No comment on gearboxes, I guess it comes to most c900s sooner or later (crosses fingers with 170k miles T16S on original 'box eek )
