I have a 1991 9000 (104k) with an immaculate heated black leather interior and everything electric that works.

Just driven it across Europe via the alps and it never missed a beat.

Anyway, I took it for an MOT today and it failed on Rear Brake hoses having excessive corrosion and nearside parking brake recording little or no effort.

I could pay to get these fixed but it could be over £100 in total and to be honest it probably isn't worth it, I reckon resale with full MOT is <£400. So, I'm selling it for spares or repairs.

I don't want to scrap it because I'll only get £80, I was thinking if I sell it to a specialist breaker he'll know how to make a few quid out of it and offer some more.

Anyone know anyone who might be interested? It is MOTd until July 20th so is still driveable. Has 4 decent tyres, new battery and recent service!

I'm puzzled. On several counts.

If there was a recent service why was the brake corrosion not picked up? Or could it be that it is nothing like as bad as the MOT suggests? We used to take the wife's car to a local convenient MOT centre but there was always something listed that could turn them a few quid - unless one discussed it with them.

Secondly £100 is about 2 tanks of fuel or two batteries and given the rest of your description I would have thought it was little enough to keep a decent car of known provenance (to you) on the road, given that it is only just run in ... wink

So why bin it at this point when, in reality, it stands you at nothing?

Presumably you are not able to take up the opetion of a scrappage scheme deal?

Agreed. £100 is nothing in car running terms.

Service was done by me and a friend, just sparks, oil and filters - I knew the underside was badly corroded but took a chance on getting it through the MOT - the test centre didn't want to work on it and he got me under the ramp and I agree with him. The parts for the service cost me £25, I wanted it running sweetly for the crumball rally, plus it gave me an excuse to tinker and get to work on it a bit to get some maintenance experience under my belt. It does stand me at nothing, but I bought it for the Crumball rally for £250 and have no intention of running it long term, I want something more modern, it's a sound car but too dull and I want to get rid.

If I didn't share a drive with neighbours I'd keep it and work on it myself getting it back on the road but at the moment it's waiting for a new home.

It's a bog standard 2.0 N/A. I'll try on UKSAABS. Thanks for the help. If anyone is interested in giving it a home for a few quid drop me a PM.

If it is really MOTable that easily and cheaply surely somebody would be happy to do that for a reliable hack.

A good leather interior is always worth a bit of cash - could even swap it out for a velour one if you want to "free up some cash"...

She is a sound reliable hack, it averaged a highly respectable 35mpg during our trip through Europe, has a slight timing chain rattle but is superbly comfortable and everything works. Getting from Nice to Worcestershire in a long stint didn't phase it and I'm always amazed to get out after 4 hours travelling without any numbness or aches whether I was sat in the front or the back.

How much would you offer for the leather? I was thinking if I was to scrap it I'd probably take the seats out before hand anyway, they are far too good to let them rot away in a local scrapyard!!

I was recently offered £50 for a 1998 9000 2.3 FPT by a breaker, admittedly with a failing head gasket. So £80 is good!

Sorry Chris, I'm not in the market for the leather myself - but I could see you getting a couple of hundred for a good interior..

£50 for a 98 2.3T - that's a very very good car for no money. My dad has a lovely sub 100k miles 97 2.3T Anniversary and it's a very complete car. Worth bugger all, of course. The 9000 is the best car that Saab ever built though.

Simply Saab in Bristol seem to do a good trade in second hand parts, might be worth having a chat with them?

I've got a velour interior, if you're interested in a swap and some cash?
