Hi guys, I have a 9-3 Aero with full Hirsch (252). Car is an 03 plate - I was traveling on the motor way and went to accelerate - there was a small whooshing sound from the turbo and half boost (first time) - then within 30 seconds it had gotten worst and no boost and lots of whooshing sounds from the turbo - the car then stalled.

Tried to restart and it ran rough with the revs jittering between just .05 to 1.5! It then stalled.

The AA thinks it could be a sensor or the turbo whilst Saab say it sounds like the fuel pump which is close to £1000!

Any ideas or have you had similar with your car!

Keen not to have Saab make me pay more than i need to!!

Thanks

Sounds like they're guessing!

Firstly, are there any vacuum pipes that look split/disconnected under the bonnet?

Next thing to do is get it on Tech II - sensor does sound possible.

Get thee to a decent independant. Where are you based?

^ I agree, look for a pipe or hose that's come off or split. Sounds like you're making boost or trying to but the air's not entering the engine.

Thanks guys, I live in Berkshire! The AA man was great, he checked the filters (which werent blocked and are virtually new) and also checked the pipes, air intake. It was working fine! No visible cracks or splits.

The fault registered on the car (came up on his PC diagnostic) was low manifold pressure hence he felt it was a sensor although due to the whooshing he also felt it could be the turbo.

The intercooler was split - saab say it was a stone or stress crack that just went.

They now say i need a new catalytic converter!

£1400 for the lot!

I have to say Saabs are the worst built cars I have had the displeasure of owning!

That's a lot of money. If you haven't authorised it yet get over to saabscene or uksaabs and do a search for independants in your area.

If those parts do need fixing you will be able to get it done much more cheaply without invalidating your warranty.

As a new 9000 owner, can someone give me some pointers for getting some PC based Diagnostics.

Depends on the year/engine management type.

Your best bet might be asking on uksaabs / saabcentral / saabscene although I'm sure somebody on here will know - Ylee?

You don't need to go to a main dealer.

I only use my cat for mot time. Used cats don't cost a lot, why not get one of those from a scrapper? If you go catless just replace the cat with a section of pipe from a catless 9000. As for intercoolers, I'm sorry to say I've got several, again from scrappers. The thing with saabs is that there are plenty of used parts for them which don't cost a lot. You could join soom of the saab forums for support and information.
