Isn't the SE a 185bhp model on an "S" plate - as opposed to 150 for the bottom end lpt model?

No - the S was certainly available as a 185 or 150 bhp version. Same hardware, different ECU settings. I'm pretty sure the 150bhp doesn't have a boost gauge. The 185bhp does.

Yep - you are right - so Clair - does your car have a turbo boost gauge?

Yep, and I had an SE which was 154, so it's possible! You're right though, a couple of years later there was a period where the SE denoted the FPT 185. Also, IIRC you couldn't have the base 2.0 N/A with an SE - it HAD to be turbocharged (either 154/185 or 205). The SE Sport then of course became the Aero.

From the above I reckon the collective view its a 150bhp car with a low pressure turbo - not super zippy then but good fuel consumption for what it is if driven smoothly

Then either a N/A 2.3 or 2.0, or a 154bhp lpt. Being an SE rules out the 2.0...
