Took a bit of gamble this weekend and bought a 02 Saab 95 2.0T SE saloon with 130,000 on the clock. The car has full Saab history up to 72,000 but it gets very patchy after that -- ie there's a 2 year interval and 16,000 miles between 92,000 and 118,000.

I got it for a pretty reasonable £1750 and it's just passed the MOT so I'm hoping I bought well. It certainly feels like a hell of a lot of car for the money.

My question -- what should I get done to ensure the future health of the car? The car's not worth not much and I don't want to go crazy but, should I get a full major service done at a specialist -- ie brake fluid, gearbox oil etc. What's the ballpark cost for this kind of job?

Would the sump have been already dropped as part of the SAAB warranty cover that the first owner enjoyed? Would I need to get it done again?

Would really appreciate any pointers.

cheers guys,

hi, first thing i would do is get the sump dropped and get the pcv kit checked and only use fully synthetic oil from now on. you need a good indie for this. where are you based?

Hi,

I am in Winchester. I've heard about two independents in Alresford who handle Saabs: Alresford Motor Services and North Motor Company. I'll follow your advice and get a quote for the sump drop. Do you think it would also be worth going for a full service and covering all the standard SAAB bases: ie spark plugs, brake fluid, gearbox oil etc. Fingers crossed, I hope to run the car for a few years.
