Any views on the 18000mile service intervals that saab use? i'm thinking of getting the car serviced approx 6K before its due a service. i would have 18K is quite long between services.

How much should i expect to pay for service at a dealer?

thanks

Why 6k earlier..?

No reason to.

What's your annual milege....?

If, it's less than 18k per year, you'll be getting it serviced on an annual basis anyway, so it doesn't matter.

more a question of 18000miles between services seems like along time to be using the same oil! i understand that mobil 1 0w-40 / 0w-30 is the recommend oil which is a very good oil.

so its not worth treating the engine to regular oil changes that are shorter than 18000 to keep the engine in tip top condition?

cheers

If you want to change oil more frequently you can, it's your decision, but, full synth will be fine at 18k intervals, there is no neccessity to change more frequently.
If you were using the car as a mini-cab driving lots of miles around London everyday in bad traffic, then maybe it would be a good idea to change at 6 months/9k miles, but otherwise, 18k is fine.

Mobil 1 + filter, less than £50 at Kwikfit (cheaper than buying it & DIY)
I do this mid service. It can only do good in my opinion, makes me happier anyway!

I wasn't sure about mine at 1st, but got chatting to the fitter while he was trying to find the oil filter! ( hidden away under top engine cover ). In fairness he did a good job & took a lot of care (seats/carpet all covered to stop getting dirty). I take both our cars there now between services as keeping long term. Cost far less than a tank of fuel every 7 or 8 thousand miles, which cant be bad.

But Kwik-Fit won't have the sump plug washers that should be replaced each time, not to mention using a proper Saab oil filter.....redcard

But, I then again, I don't have a GM engine in my Saab.

i would provide the filter and sump plug ! wouldn't want them to use a non saab/GM part!

They won't use your supplied filter, not allowed to. But surely a filter is a filter, within reason, will a SAAB one really be any better?. No different to buying a Champion filter from Halfords.
My cars out of warranty, so I'll happily use theirs!.
