Time For Service - Seems way to soon!!
Discussion
Evening folks.
Car is a 54reg 95 Aero manual and my service indicator came on yesterday but it seems (to me) too early.
Had a big Service at 72k miles, this was in Feb 08 and has now done 79k miles.
So, the computer is telling me that after just over 9 months and 7k miles it needs a service, that sounds premature to me?
Car is driven mainly by my wife. Her journey to work is only about 4.5m, all minor roads and never gets stuck in traffic, takes her about 15minutes. Then at the weekends I drive it and it gets the odd caning but nothing at all extreme.
Also, what should I be expecting to pay for an oil service at a specialist, or a main dealer. I'd like to keep it stamped up but might DIY...dunno yet.
Any thoughts.

The time for service indicator on my 93 TiD 2002 MY was never even close to being right...it was clearly set for some kind of servicing schedule but it didn't match the one in the book! There is a way of resetting the indicator if you google for it but after a while it goes a way on mine!
Well I rang the garage (Saab specialist) that serviced it and they have reliably informed me the service indicator works solely on the calender, no fancy calculations based n driving style/oil quality. I have since had a flashback and remember what I did.
I vaguely remember that when I bought the car in september 07 the first thing I did was give it an oil service at home; sometime just before Christmas the indicator came on. Now, I wasn't in a position to stump up circa £500 to get it done due to santas sack etc. Given that he oil was fresh and the car running smoothly I waited a couple of pay days (only about 700miles) and took it to Aeromotive Saab. They have said that if the message wasn't on the display then they wouldn't necesseraly have cleared it. I assumed they would, hence the confusion.
I think that's what happened anyway.
So, when it goes back to them end of feb for it's annual seeing to I need to explcitly request they rest the indicator.
Cheers all
