Sorry if a repost.

Jeremy Clarkson claimed 40-70 was quicker than a 911 turbo (2:35). http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NrAjcWxKtnI

Wikipedia suggests 50-75 is quicker than a Carrera 4S http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_9-5

So is there any truth in this?

I doubt the wiki claim because my Aero bounces off the limiter in 2nd at about 69mph. Surely the auto isn't quicker?

Well?

It is indeed the overtaking time, not the 0-60.

3rd doesn't really find the shove until 65/70mph (-100). Aero oomph 50-70 is all about 2nd gear...

If your taking an Aero to the limiter you're wasting time by staying too long in a gear so will be slower....

Anyway, the old faster than a Porsche goes back to the first days of the 9000 Aero, NOT the 9-5 Aero.

Porsche's have moved on a bit since 1993....the Aero hasn't.

Maybe not, but the lad in his chavved up Golf GTi yesterday obviously had no idea what the badge on the back of my car meant...

Weaving around behind me - maybe to keep his tyres warm wink - so I dropped it to 2nd as we came out of a 30 onto a NSL dual carriage way - it was even more satisfying as I'd only got it back after 3 days in the garage having some remedial work, service and MOT done. smile

99 turbo was supposed to be faster than a Ferrari in 4th 50-70...course the ferrari could just change down a gear, but still... nice kick in the backside with that one, more the later saabs...

Simple maths: 9000 Aero had more torque, from lower down, that the 993 and was less than 100kg heavier.
