If it's the alternator it will be a Bosch part more than likely so any GSF or eurocarparts should stock it. It may just be the regulator so if you don't mind getting your hands dirty it's only a 10 quid part.

9-3ss' do seem to suffer from electrical problems though so it may be something else...

Personally I would take it to an independant specialist - where are you based?

ETA: didn't you buy it recently? If it's from a dealer surely it will still be covered? If not, a decent Indy might be able to negotiate a warranty payment. I know my dad got some warranty work done on his 9-3sc by an Indy.

I have an 05 9-3 Aero that had a faulty wheel bearing 1 month out of waranty at 52k miles.

Saab without hesitation coughed up 50%
