I just inherited a 1999 Griffin (as mentioned elsewhere) and the only problem it seems to have is an electrical Gremlin.

The warning light, brake light, transmission light all come on, the speedo stops working, i think the fuel gauge sticks where it is but too early to tell. Then it just fixes itself and everything is normal again.

The car feels perfect, no overheating, no gear problems, brakes are fine etc.

Is this something i can sort out cheaply, or should i live with it?

I've just had exactly the same thing happen to me (2001 93 Aero Conv). I had the warning light, ABS light, traction control light, brake light, engine management light all come on while the speedo drops out. You'll also notice that the mile odometer doesn't add any miles on while the speedo has dropped out.

I hate to say this but it sounds like the same issue, which is the abs/traction control module. I'm not very mechanically minded, but if you look under the bonnet there is a box back right (on the 93) with thin green pipes coming out of the top - thats it.

Now for the hard part, I had it changed and the part alone was £1300. weeping

I needed to get it done quick so had the saab dealer do it. You may get it done cheaper else where possibly.

I won't be doing that then :P

Does this mean the TCS and ABS is not working?

Actually, after a few minutes 'research' I can get a refurb unit for a couple of hundred, guaranteed for two years!

Seems quite reasonable, considering the alternative!

I was told that the ABS or TCS could cut out at any time, because of the problem, so not to rely on either until the problem was fixed.

The refurb unit sounds like a more manageable price.

Good luck with it.

Update:

I sent the unit off to this firm http://www.bba-reman.com/

For the meagre sum of £100 Plus P+P they refurbed it and returned it back to me in about two days!

It all works again smile

Consider this a recommendation!
