Looks nice, but 170k??
It's obviously been up and down the Mway all it's life. If the service history stacks up then it will probably be ok, don't really know about 9-3's though, personally I wouldn't touch it. It'll be worth less that half that in another 6 months, if you can sell it at all.
As a keeper, that you expect to have to spend a bit on over the next few years, it might be a good buy.
You'd be better asking on Saabscene or Uksaabs for a more informed response, it's a bit quite in here.

That Viggen looks good!
The later 9-3 is stiffer with less torque steer, but is much heavier and actually a fair bit slower model for model. The "classic" 9-3 is fine with some minor handling mods (eg rack clamp, stiffer anti-roll bars etc).
I recently I thought I would look up the power/weight stats for my car, the post 2002 equivalent and the latest 2.8 version (note these are auto and therefore heavier):
So - Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible Auto:
2002 - 2.0litre - 205bhp - 1427Kg bhp/tonne = 144
2004 - 2.0litre - 210bhp - 1685Kg bhp/tonne = 127
2008 - 2.8litre - 250bhp - 1755Kg bhp/tonne = 142
My car: 2002 as above but MapTun Stage 3 and some stiffening (I've added 10Kg to the weight to be on the safe side):
2002 - 2litre - 270bhp - 1437Kg bhp/tonne = 188

the blue car looks nice, but the 04 is far better value, its the new shape and its only done approx 50k more , as far as it dropping 50% in 6months is just daft, how cheap have they got to be ? they will be free soon if thats the case,a dealer friend says the car is still under trade price milaege adjusted .
How many miles do you do in a year? Whilst Saabs will do high miles, its best to assume that things will start to wear out in the 200K+. We got 220K from a 94 900 but then all sorts of little thing started to play up and made it uneconomic to repair.
And, as I pointed out, the new shape cars are actually a fair bit slower unless you want to modify them.

Only 50k more? That's 5 years mileage for some people. Not to be sniffed at.Buy it then, put another 10k on the thing and see who'll give you more than 3k for it. If you can sell it at all.
