Sadly, today, I took Mrs B's 1994 GM900S Auto to the great parts depot in the sky. We had it since 2000 and it was a grand old bus - it was just short of 218,000 miles today, but had become so unreliable Mrs B wouldn't drive it. So, with a tear and £150, I waved it goodbye.

Next (having spent the last few weeks surveying the market and reading up on known problems) I went to look at my "pick" of available Saabs suitable for Mrs B.

I've put down a deposit on a 2001 (on a "Y") 9-5 SE Auto Estate. One owner, full Saab Service history with no big intervals and detailed bills, all MoTs.

Will post pics once I collect it next week and have given it a proper clean.

Having driven a 2001 9-5 SE estate for a couple of days last week, a manual box, I know that you will be chuffed.

Think we may be looking for the auto aero estate variety in the future cool

Identical to mine (except the auto bit) I'm sure she will be most happy with the choice. Mines just sailed through its mot again with no advisories but only a modest 94k on the clock. 17k miles in the year tho.

Just to depress everyone whats the gory details ie miles and price if you dont mind me asking.

Prof

I have a 2000 (X) 2.3 SE Auto Estate, we've had it just over 7 years and it's been excellent. It's now on 187k miles (180k in our possession) and runs as well now as it did at 100k. Original Turbo, Original Shocks/Springs and No Sump drop since new.

I'm sure you'll have many years of motoring out of it, I'm still expecting several more out of mine.

Not too bad a deal, either.

No, I thought it was worth it for a car with a full history and records?

I do love it when I see other PH'ers cars with double my mileage it makes me feel warm in the knowledge of not having to change cars again in the near future !

seems like you got a good deal on the price or are used car prices in free fall at the moment? especially if that was bot from a trader.

Yes it was from a trader (local to the one owner) who took it in part exchange. The car was serviced and MoT'd at the end of June. The garage owner had done nothing to the car bar washing it and let me examine and test drive the car on my own. When looking for a car I found a large number of similar cars advertised at around/below the £2,500 mark (as this one was). I chose this one because it seemed "honest" - ie looked right for the mileage and has full history - and was owned and being sold in a "good area".

Only time will tell of course...

Was it registered before March 2001? If later it will be the high VED bracket. Still, sounds a good car for the money as it will have at least a 3 month warranty.

Have bought the car. Had a very nice 40 mile drive back home in it - very comfy, smooth and responsive for a biggish estate! Mrs B (who hadn't see it) is really pleased with it and loved driving it around when I got back - phew! (Just as well as it's going to be mainly "her" car).

Am going to treat it to a valet and then start going around it with the fine tooth comb looking for stuff to fix/improve...

It's a brave man who buys a car without the lady seeing it!

Glad she liked it.

Oohh nice car.

I think one of these will be on my shopping list when we need a second "dog friendly" vehicle next year.

Its an awesome dog vehicle our pointer rattles around in the back its huge!.

We can also fit a very large crate in the back for longer journeys.

would totally recommend one

Thanks siwil1, I've got a 2002 9-3 hatch at the moment which isn't really dog friendly plus OH finds it a bit too small for him (he's 6ft 2). We'll need something else next year and can't afford a 5 series so I think it'll be another Saab.

I've had 2 9-5 Aero estates, latest one is currently being used by a rep who works for me. They are top cars and so comfy, the latest one has over 130k on and is still looking fresh inside, just wish I got to drive it more.
